I lost my driving license 2 years ago for drink driving! (I know it is a
terrible offence and I have paid for it)

I wanted some advice on writing a letter to the magistrates courts asking if
they will grant me my license back as they banned me for 3 years but now 2
years has passed.

I went to see a solicitor and they told me I can write a letter as i cannot
afford their fees.

Any help on how to best word this letter would be very much appreciated.

I drink very occasionally now, if ever. My job prospects are currently under
threat (i work for a charity looking after children with special needs and
they need to raise £30,000 in 3 weeks or will close), so I cannot apply for
many jobs due to a license being required. I am in my 2nd year of a
Pyschology degree and was also married last June.

I know they need to see a change in circumstances etc etc but I am just
finding it hard to start the letter off as i dont have a clue how to word
it.

Thank you in advance

You are not telling us something. Either this was a second offence and / or
you were totally ****ed and / or you committed other offences (like driving
while disqualied).

In the first two cases you will probably be required to provide a medical
certificate that you are not an alcoholic and pass a [heavy] retest. The
cost of this and the very highly rated insurance that you are likely to be
saddled with will be high, perhaps more than you can afford. You can
probably forget return of licence in the third case.

Well actually your post covers this fairly well. Say you increasingly need
a car for work (better still if you charity employer backs you up), study
and because you expect to start a family any day now.

Are you a psychic?

hehe, It is my second offence and yes, we are planning to start a family
very soon as I got preg on my honeymoon and had a miscarriage!

I do have some idea of what to include but how do you think I should word
it,

Dear Sir/Madame, etc etc???

I dont want to sound desperate! I was put on probation for 1 year too and
attended the mandatory DID course, and did not miss one session! bla bla
bla.

I am certain my insurance will be sky high and being a poor student, maybe
it is not the best idea at the moment, but at least I will be able to look
for more widely spread work!!

Thanks again xx

I personally believe that you would be wasting your time.
When you received your sentence, you should have been offered a drivers
rehabliatation course and if successfully completed would have reduced your
ban considerably. If not looks like you will have to complete your 3 year
ban.
Which seems excessive, unless you have been a serial road traffic offender.

good luck anyway.
